October is 'Pink Ride' Month:
Albuquerque Cab 'Goes Pink' for Breast Cancer Awareness
(ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico) — Stand up against breast cancer simply by sitting down-in a specially designated "TLPA Pink Ride to benefit the American Cancer Society" vehicle operated by Albuquerque Cab Company, Inc.
For the entire month of October, Albuquerque Cab Company has one of its vehicles designated as the pink cab, and will contribute $100 each week to the American Cancer Society "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" program to help raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. There is no additional cost to passengers, and drivers are not allowed to accept donations. However, passengers can make a $10 donation directly to the American Cancer Society. The passenger will simply text PINK to 41518, to have a donation of $10.00 added to the passenger's next cell phone bill, or passengers may also make secure, online donations with a credit card at a special web site created by the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org/PinkRide. The effort is part of the second annual international TLPA Pink Ride to benefit the American Cancer Society spearheaded by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA) a global association of for-hire vehicle fleet owners representing more than 1,100 companies.
"Every time a passenger rides in our pink vehicle, from October 1 through October 31, they'll know they are riding in a vehicle that is helping to raise funds and awareness in the fight against breast cancer," company owner Shawkeet Hindi says. "Every one of us has a story about someone we know with breast cancer," Hindi says. "I hope that people see this vehicle and are spurred on to do something on their own, whether that be doing their own fundraiser, helping out a friend with breast cancer, or maybe even just making sure they or a loved one get themselves screened."
Hundreds of taxicabs, limousines and par transit vehicles around the world will participate in TLPA Pink Ride to benefit the American Cancer Society initiated by TLPA, the world's largest and oldest professional association of for-hire vehicle fleet operators. "Our members represent 100,000 vehicles on the road today, so we already have a tremendous presence and visibility out there in the public, all across America and, in fact, around the world," said TLPA CEO Alfred LaGasse. "For the second year in a row, we're encouraging our members to harness that visibility to make a difference." Established in 1917, the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA) is a non-profit trade association of and for the private passenger transportation industry.
